The artist has handed over the complete sum of his £25,000 honor cash to the MVT, which operates to preserve the UK's grassroots live music spots.

The star was given the cheque on mid-October as his third album People Watching was chosen as the best record of the previous year.

The musician has opted to give the cash to the trust, in recognition of the vital role grassroots venues had in his early career.

"As an artist would not have achieved my current career if it weren't for all the shows I did around the area, and beyond, when I was beginning," said Fender. "These locations are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

From early 2023 onward, over 150 of these locations have permanently closed – approximately one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

Recently, major artists such as Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the Music Venues Trust in its initiatives to support the industry, by including a small levy to their ticket costs, which goes to help independent venues.

Sam Fender also participated, generating over £100k on his 2024 arena tour to support thirty-eight local spots across Britain.

The money helped locations that were dealing with potential shutdown due to difficulties stemming from flooding, blazes and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and sound issues.

Other venues were granted financial assistance in improving amenities and gear that positively impacted musicians and fans.

"The notion that revenue from shows in big venues supports the local stages, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just sensible," the star has stated.

The musician is not the first artist to give his award prize money to charitable organizations.

Back when Pulp received the trophy in the mid-90s for their album the album, frontman Jarvis Cocker announced that the act would contribute their winnings to the non-profit the charity.

During 2002, rapper and singer the artist split her award across a few good causes, such as the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"And I contributed a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics class, because I did gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked better apparatus," Ms Dynamite shared with outlets.

Two years ago, the band donated their funds to the local youth club that nurtured their act, as well as other grassroots music organisations.

Also winners that year M People donated their award to a charity for MS after a close contact was diagnosed the condition.

"Receiving the award was ample," said vocalist Small. "The cash was the extra but we didn't need the bonus, because we had the cake. So our victory touched the lives of others."

Recently, the Music Venues Trust revealed it had saved a couple of small stages in the South East, by bringing them into community ownership.

The Joiners in that area and the second in that location were bought under the community ownership scheme, which is supported by Arts Council England and enthusiasts who purchase "stakes" in the venues.
