Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at all of the past five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the title advantage from his teammate by one point after winning in Mexico City two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, sitting 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, if briefly, when he spun at corner four early in the session.
The Japanese spun out over the curbs on exit before spinning across the escape zone, and was lucky to get away with just a light touch of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the conclusion of the practice, spinning around through the quick descending corner before the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in P19, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber P3, 0.619 seconds slower than Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
