Her Royal Highness's Traditional Christmas Musical Celebration Pays Tribute to Unsung Heroes

The Princess of Wales is hosting her yearly Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have supported their local areas.

The sizable congregation will enjoy a mix of carols, music and readings from stars like Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Centred Around Kindness and Compassion

The theme of the service, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose child passed away from a brain tumour, and who set up a charity, a support fund, to help households where there is a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often discreetly and without words, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an remarkable change to the circumstances of individuals," Her Royal Highness stated in a message before the concert.

A Gradual Return

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own measured re-emergence to the public eye subsequent to her illness and medical care, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she talked about recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Musical Talent and Access

Guests arriving at the Abbey will be entertained by young musicians supported by the Future Talent organisation, co-founded by the former royal to increase availability of musical tuition.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been helped by the trust, with funding assisting with instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "awesome" to be playing at the evening's event.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," Carys said. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to hone their artistic talents.

A Family Affair

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who plays the euphonium, will be present at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Within the audience will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include Saphia Turner, aged nine, honouree of a youth community award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to raise money for local food charities.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been decorated with handcrafted festive wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

The musical lineup includes singer Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a Cornish sea shanty group, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "a dream come true."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on a major network on Christmas Eve.
