Despite the aggregate figure of casualties documented being substantially larger than other recent estimates, it almost certainly fails to capture the full scale of Palestinian loss, per the leader of the prisoners and detainees department.

“Although we are presenting proof for a greater figure of fatalities than once estimated, this is not a full picture,” he explained. “We are certain that there are yet individuals who lost their lives in custody that we have not identified.”

Civilian Deaths

Confidential government records shows that the largest portion of Palestinian detainees from Gaza who perished in prison were civilians, based on a related examination.

In May of the current year, a armed services record following all militants in Gaza, a list of in excess of 47,000 listed people, documented just 21 fatalities in custody. By that date, 65 Gazans from Gaza had lost their lives in prison.
